    Celebrities That Love African Designs

    As we already know, African prints have reached their peak. Yes, it turns out that we’re not the only ones obsessed with our beautiful prints. Vibrant celebrities both International and local have also been intoxicated. Here we’re tracking down singers, actresses, and reality stars who love African prints just the way we do. Keep reading as we get to meet them.

    The first celebrity on our list is none other than the world-wide talented singer Beyoncé.

    In the above picture, Beyoncé is seen wearing a structured Ankara suit set with a matching statement hat made with a fabric that almost all Nigerians would immediately identify. She paired it with a tiny, boxy purse and a pair of sandals. The outfit was designed by Enna Attah Udemba, the Nigerian designer behind the EnaGancio label.

    Beyoncé  is one celebrity that can be said to have great love and a sense of appreciation for African designs. The talented singer opted for bold colors and rich patterns during her trip to South Africa for Global Citizen Festival, making a vibrant fashion statement with every outfit she was spotted in.

    She took to her Instagram page to express her love for the designers with the caption reading, ” Thank you to the talented African designers who kept me feeling fresh. Y’all go so hard”.

    Indeed the talented designers hailing from South Africa, Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire definitely did their thing. Beyoncé looks both on and off stage were put together by New York and LA-based stylist Zerina Akers.

    Beyoncé also wore one of Loza Male’ombho’s ( an Ivorian fashion designer) creations in the clip for her title Formation, on the album Lemonade and she looked absolutely stunning.

    Another celebrity that has a great love for African fashion, is African talented singer Yemi Alade.

    Nigerian Afro-pop singer, songwriter, actress and activist, Yemi Eberechi Alade, is undoubtedly one of Africa’s biggest female artists, with several hit singles. She’s been dominating the airwaves since 2013 when her catchy single “Johnny” was released.

    Over the years, she has been able to successfully infuse trendy Ankara fashion into her branding and image. As an artist, having a peculiar visual identity through which the audience can connect with you is very important. Yemi Alade is someone who appreciates African fashion a lot. She is famous, not just for her very beautiful voice, but also for her ostentatious display and expression of love for African fashion.

    All these displays of African culture shows that she’s relentlessly African, as she fuses these into her dance routines. She’s received several accolades for this as she has been at the top of her game for rocking the best and trendy African Ankara designs. In 2016, she was named Brand Ambassador for Africa Fashion Week Nigeria and Africa Fashion Week London respectively. Fashion is a very integral part of her life as an artist.

    The next celebrity on our list is Pharrell Williams.

    Pharell Williams is one celebrity that has proven his love for African designs. He is said to have collaborated with Adidas on a collection. This is another testament to Africa’s influence on mainstream fashion. Adidas has collaborated with the musician and fashion designer to create a collection of colourful athletic footwear called Solar Hu. The colours of the running shoes come in a single style along with eight pieces of active wear that all draw their inspiration from East African flags. When asked about this decision Williams says, “Africa is a beautiful confine and the origin of civilization.”

    Williams’ previous collection for the brand under the Hu label celebrated tennis, but Solar Hu focuses on running, which the musician describes as “a state of meditation.”

    The collection also aims to honour the culture of long-distance running in the region, given that many of the best long-distance runners come from East Africa.

    The next celebrity on our list is none other than the the Reality Star and TV host Ebuka Obi- Uchendu.

    Ebuka Obi- Uchendu is not just the good looking host of Big Brother Reality Show. He is also the face of the Big Brother Brand. Many house mates have come and gone, some forgotten but Ebuka remains the personality that is constant. His personal style is one of the qualities many have warmed up to the charming host.     There is no denying that Ebuka is constantly raising the bar in the men’s fashion game especially in Africa.

    The last but not the least celebrity we would be discussing in this article is the talented singer Rihanna.

    In true Rihanna fashion, the style icon of course had to rock a legendary South African designer to celebrate the arrival of her brands on the continent.

    In the above picture, Rihanna is seen wearing Thebe Magugu’s ( South African designer)  White Wool Fringe Hem Knitted Dress with Detachable Bralette from their AW21 Alchemy collection.

    The collection explores the changing face of African spirituality -a fitting outfit choice for the star’s first business venture in Africa.

    Rihanna paired the garment with a matching white headwrap reminiscent of the traditional headwrap, often called a dhuku, worn by African women

    She accessorized with hoop earrings and gold rings, a deep burgundy lip and white smoky eyeshadow to accentuate her smoldering eyes and she looked absolutely stunning.
