    Fashion Trends

Fashion trends in Africa have seen many seasons replete with various styles ranging from the tweaked indigenous to the creative, cosmopolitan, and Afrocentric. But today, we will look at the styles and creativity displayed at the just concluded GTCO Fashion Weekend 2022, but before then, let’s take a quick look at what GTCO is all about.

The Guaranty Trust fashion Weekend, founded in 2016, is a consumer-focused platform to showcase creative African wear and human enterprise to a global audience. It has evolved into one of the best platforms on the continent for presenting Africa’s best and fostering open trade for up-and-coming fashion firms.

It is a two-day exhibition and capacity-building event that features international leaders, and industry experts focused on the end user of indigenous startups geared towards promoting enterprise. It also creates an avenue for entrepreneurs to showcase their wares for patronage, with a chance to network with other entrepreneurs and creatives and reach new audiences for growth. Business alliances have been born from these interactions, with collaborations and plans hatched in the process.

A few years later, even after a two-year hiatus, the platform continues to evolve with themed shows featuring fashion-forward pieces on the runway, giving the designers and models a chance to bask in the reality of their dreams.

The GTCO platform not only creates awareness for the African fashion industry but engages the services of industry experts to hold masterclasses for interested individuals who wants to delve into the industry but have no means or mentorship. These classes are interactive to create an atmosphere of inclusion and diversity.

Some of the models who graced the runway have strutted for most of the designers in previous years. Still, many of then graced the occasion as designers with timeless pieces borne out of creativity and exposure to the industry.

It is also worthy of note that most of the models are indigenous, which has a lot to say about the talents in Africa. GTCO has come to stay, and anticipation is rife for next year’s session. Should we expect a collaboration? Only time will tell.

Mttindo is an e-commerce market place focused on providing a platform for high end designers, who have been producing sustainable clothing and accessories for years while also being able to give local villages and artisans an opportunity to show case their abilities.

Mttindo which means fashion in Swahili is an African market place created for African designer in Africa and in the diaspora to sell their clothing and accessories to everyone around the world!
